HEALTH & SAFETY

Welcome to Try Off Road Taupo – an off-road adventure event designed to challenge and inspire. Your safety is our top priority, and while we’ve taken every step to ensure a well-managed event, it’s important that each participant takes personal responsibility and is well-prepared for the challenges ahead. This page contains essential safety information for all participants. Please take the time to read this before event day.

Participant Responsibility

● All personal, medical, and emergency contact information provided must be accurate and up todate.
● You must carry any required personal medications (e.g. inhalers, allergy pens, etc.) with you at all times during the event.

Medical Considerations

Endurance events place a high demand on your body. To reduce your risk:

● Hydrate wisely – drink to thirst, and avoid overhydrating with plain water alone.

● Use electrolytes – we provide PURE electrolyte drink at aid stations.

● Avoid NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen, Voltaren) – they may increase the risk of hyponatraemia.

● Eat during longer events – take on some salt/electrolyte-containing foods.

Know the signs of trouble: nausea, dizziness, confusion, or excessive fatigue can indicate a medical issue. Seek help early.

Incident Reporting – What To Do

If you witness or are involved in an incident on course:
1. Stop if it’s safe to do so – do not put yourself in danger.
2. Check on the person – offer assistance if you’re able.
3. Send the next participant to the next marshal (approx. every 5km) to report the issue, including location and description.
4. Report the incident again at the finish line to staff or the medic team.

Our course marshals and safety crew are in contact at all times and will coordinate an appropriate response.
